This is the then British Prime Minister Winston Churchill inspecting the ruins of Coventry Cathedral after the raid that occurred on 14 November 1940 (from the National Archives website):
Next time on a happier note but these sad events during the war were so much part of Phil's life I wanted to present them here.
Thank you for sharing this Mimsie. It is quite a dramatic picture isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYes Denise, it certainly is. I can't even begin to imagine all the horrors that man saw during his Prime Ministership in WW2.
DeleteBritain was lucky to have Sir Winston to lead them through the misery of the war days.
ReplyDeleteYes, his oratory was magnificent and stirred many to fight on and not give up.

ReplyDeleteThey are important records, such pictures. So much can be understood, without the need for words. YAM xx
In many cases pictures tell their own stories don't they? xx
DeleteIt is a march of solidarity, isn't it? Figures of state striding together amid chaotic debris --representing all heroes in disorder. The photo still gives a message of strength and composure. It always will.
ReplyDeleteSo true Geo. so very true. For all his faults Sir Winston (he was later knighted) was truly a great leader and, with others by his side, truly inspired us.
