WHISPERS from WARWICKSHIRE

I am not sure if this will work but I've often mentioned the little anecdotes Phil has related about people he knew, or had heard about, back in Warwickshire so I will try to either remember them or ask him to tell me more of them.  They are only short but some of them truly are worth passing on and I hope you will also get a chuckle out of them.

This story was told to Phil by his dad:

Back in 1925 (4 years before Phil was born), there was this farmer, a Mr Oliver Kibble, who decided to buy himself a motor car.  Off he went into Coventry and purchased a brand new Daimler. He drove home from Coventry to his farm without mishap and after admiring the car he decided it should be parked in the barn to keep it safe from the weather etc.

Phil's dad (who we think had gone into Coventry with Mr Kibble) told the story as follows:  Mr Kibble got in the car, started it up and headed for the barn, the doors of which were wide open.  I doubt it was ever discovered exactly what happened but some reason Mr K seemed to forget where the brake was and was heard to be yelling "Whoa, you bugger, whoa!" as he drove the car straight through the barn and out through the double doors at the other end.  Fortunately Daimler cars were well built and little damage was done but, unlike horses, they obviously don't respond to being told to "whoa".

  3. LOL what a story. Thank goodness no one was hurt and that there was little damage to the car. Car's don't respond nearly as well to "whoa" as horses do :)
