CANDY

Many of you will recall we adopted Candy who was a rescue cat.   Not only had I chosen her from a photograph but when we went to the animal rescue place she chose us so it was obviously meant to be.

She has now been with us for over 3 years and has become so much part of the family that there are very few days that she's not with us for about 22 hours.   She either sleeps on my lap, or on Phil's lap if mine is not available, and she sleeps on one of our beds all night.  She comes when she is called 9 times out of 10 and understands lots of words and obeys them too.

A few months ago she was very ill with a urinary tract infection  It was strange to begin with as we discovered her doing 'squirties' in the house and for an extremely clean cat we knew something was wrong.   Several trips to the vet and various tests and medicines finally restored her to her usual happy self but it took several weeks for that to happen.  Veterinary treatment is not cheap, especially when it involves various tests but we love that cat so....you pay to have her well again.

One strange thing that eventuated after her illness was she began to sleep on Phil's lap.  She had never done that in 3 years even though he had often picked her up and sat down with her on his lap.  She would immediately jump off.  Did she realise he had been helping her get better by taking her to the vet?  We will never know how a cat's mind works but all I know is she and he are better friends now.

In my work/store room where I have my computer there are two chairs with cushions on them.  One is for Candy and the other for Phil if he decides he wants to come out and have a chat.   This is Candy in her chair

and the other for Phil but you can be sure if Phil has been sitting out here, as soon as he leaves she has to have his chair.

She will also steal Phil's armchair in the living room but never mine for some reason.   You could say she has become boss of the house but do we mind...no, not really.

  1. I am so glad that you were able to help with her health issues. She is a beauty, and of course she rules the house. It is what cats do.

  2. One or the other of us often has to postpone doing the jigsaw if one of the cats is on the chair and since I got two new office chairs they have taken a fancy to them as well. We have 5 of them here and so there's a good chance that one of them will be on the chair you want. lol
Willow had a urine infection at one time and we think it was because we changed the brand of litter in the tray, we've kept to the same old one since then.

    1. They say dogs are smarter than cats and I guess in some way they are but they do pander to their masters whereas cats just don't do that. I once ended up in hospital with a dislocated shoulder when avoiding a chair my Precious had leapt onto nearly as soon as I stood up. I, of course, forgave her. I mean you do don't you.
Thanks for paying me a visit. x

...of course she's the boss!!! So glad to hear of Candy's continued presence with you and that health matters were resolved. It is always so difficult with pets, knowing what best to do. YAM xx

    1. I think Candy's strange behaviour was her way of trying to tell us something was wrong. As said she is quite an intelligent cat and seems able to communicate more than most other cats we've had. xx

  4. Wonderful to hear Candy is well again after her infection. Nice to know she has accepted Phil more now too.
I had Lola to the vet last Thursday, she'd been scratching madly and shaking her head so hard I thought her ears would fly off, but hiding under the bed all the time so I didn't see her much. Well, Thursday morning I saw her, that same day she was at the vet for antibiotic injection with a strong painkiller in it. Where she'd scratched was huge and raw and infected, he said the violent head shaking meant a bad headache. within two hours of being home, Lola was her normal self again.

    1. Phil I know is pleased although he pretends not to be but I am glad for him.
That sounds dreadful for poor Lola and yourself as well as you worry so much about them. I didn't realise the head shaking could indicate a headache but it makes sense. They shake to get rid of the pain as they would their foot if it was sore. With her allergies it could be a sinus headache and they can be so painful. Hopefully Lola will be OK from now on for both your sakes.
