WEDNESDAY WISDOM

I don't live in a country where we have wolves (only dingoes) but I am sure this would be very true.  Am I correct in saying there are areas in the U.S, where they are trying to reintroduce wolves?

  1. I know they've been introduced in Yellowstone Park.

    1. Thanks so much for that. We have no wolves here and to my hubby and I they seem such beautiful animals although I imagine, as with any wild animal they can be a nuisance to some farmers etc.

  2. Yes, they are, though in some areas they are multiplying quicker than expected and have caused trouble for cattle farmers. They are (or were recently) still endangered, however, so they are protected.

    Beautiful.

I know someone who travels north every year to volunteer at a park for wolves. They care for injured ones, that sort of thing. Those wolves get very used to their human caretakers and probably would not be released. But they are cared for and would otherwise not survive injures and that sort of thing.

    1. It is wonderful to know that people care for them. I imagine they would become partly tamed and their carers would love them so much.
One hates to see any endangered species under attack of any kind.

  3. Wolves have been a longtime favorite since I lived in Alaska, which has the largest remaining population of gray wolves in the United States. Wolves very rarely act aggressively towards people, but unfortunately, not everyone agrees to "repopulating them" in some areas of the US, which I think is sad and unfortunate.

    1. One of my (Aussie) granddaughters lived on Sitka for a year or so but I don't remember her mentioning wolves. Perhaps they are not present on the island.
There will always be someone that doesn't want to see a species prosper unfortunately.

  5. I wouldn't mind having a wolf as a friend/protector.
There are areas where wolves are being re-introduced, I read about it a while ago, but can't remember the details. Something to do with reinstating the eco balance and bringing back the deer (or something) that used to live there, but don't now because other small animal have taken over since the wolves were ousted all that time ago.

    1. I think it will be quite a task to get the balance right with the various animals. Wolves I feel don't usually attack humans whereas foxes I think are destructive for the sheer fun of it.
I only hope they can survive as long as people care about them.

Definitely true this one... and yes there are areas in Europe and America where reintroduction has been taking place under controlled conditions; here in Scotland there is talk of it - but meanwhile we are wrangling with survival of the Highland Wild Cat and there is a big debate about whether permit continued reintroduction of the beaver. Mankind has become too used to having everything his way and forgets that he can work with, rather than compete against these critters... Lovely quote today Mimsie! YAM xx

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote Yamini and I too thought it very profound.
Yes, man takes what he wants to the detriment of many beautiful things both fauna and flora.
When you see man hunt and kill for the sheer joy of it you can see why he would not care about an animal or plant. xx
