FAVOURITE GARDEN FLOWERS

I know lantana is considered a noxious weed in many parts of Australia (including Western Australia) but there are some that are still favoured as they don't appear to take over from other plants.  One I particularly like is the yellow lantana and we have one growing in our back garden and doing very well (even competing with the weeds).

They are a very hardy plant.  There are several planted near our small local shopping centre and I imagine they do get watered occasionally although I have never seen this happen.  No matter they continue to thrive but do not grow very large.  This makes this so suitable for small borders.

Another "L" plant I have always loved is the larkspur although I think most people usually call it a delphinium.  I've never attempted to grow them but I do so love the blue ones.

Now to search for some pretty flowers beginning with "M".

I can understand your liking lantana Mimsie, for I do to... though it does take over if it escapes to bushland - as you say, even weeds can't compete! ... and who cannot like 'Larkspur"?! YAM xx

    1. Fortunately the yellow lantana seems fairly harmless and it dos stay small. The larger one in our back garden is about 4.6" high with a spread of about 5' x 5' but it has never seeded down so perhaps another one that doesn't spread.
Do you know I prefer the name larkspur over delphinium for some reason. Sounds rather more romantic? xx

  2. Love the larkspur. Lantana is pretty, but its plans for world domination put me off it.

    1. Cheers for the larkspur!! Our lantana have never seeded down so maybe safer varieties? Who knows what will grow where if it is favourable to that particular plant?

  3. The non-invasive Lantana was developed sometime last century, but hubby still wouldn't let me plant any.
I tried to grow Larkspur once, I call them delphinium, but the seeds just never came up. I tried seedlings, but they died too. I guess they are one of the many things I just can't grow.

    1. Seems our two lantana are non-invasive or over the years one have expected them to have seeded down.
Larkspur/delphinium I feel are also plants that would not respond to my 'tender care' so have never tried them.
