FRIDAY FRIVOLITY No 5

This is a song I always enjoy.  Ghost Riders in the Sky was written on 5 May, 1948 by Stan Jones and first recorded by Burl Ives on 17 February, 1949.   I have always liked the Johnny Cash version so here it is.

Please enjoy it with me and perhaps sing along as well.

  1. One of our friends claimed this as his signature piece - I cannot hear it without thinking of him. Thank you.

    1. Good to bring back memories. It is a mighty song.
I still can't believe a post scheduled for 3 July appeared now. I wonder can anyone explain how that happened.

Oh yes (grinning from ear to ear)... my sis and I used to play cowboys and indians and sing along to Johnny Cash (mum loved him - from afar)... and this of course was always included!!! Not bad for under tens &*> Thanks for the memories... YAM xx

    1. As said to EC, I enjoy bringing back happy memories for friends.
I wonder can you explain how my 3 July post actually posted early? You understand so much about these things you may be able to point out where I went wrong. Please. xx

G'day Mimsie... hmmmm.... I suspect that despite having scheduled the post for that date, you may accidentally have hit the 'publish' tab at the top of the posts page... this could occur if you are in the habit of selecting posts there to apply labels - which tab is right beside the publish one..... really can't think how else it retained the date. If it had been a mis-schedule, it would have the actual date of publishing...

Then again, this is Blogger we are discussing...!!! Yxx

  3. I remember this! And I'd completely forgotten it...Dad and I used to sing along with this, but I don't think it was the Johnny Cash version. Johnny Cash was one of our favourites though. We used to watch a TV show called Sing Along with Mitch and the words would be along the bottom of the screen with a bouncing ball to follow the words with.

    1. Another happy person remembering something from the past.
I remember Sing Along with Mitch so that bring back memories for me as well.
I am sure there are many artists that sang this one but Johnny Cash was always my favourite.

  5. Love this song! Thanks.

Singing along with Mitch was also a common event in our family, too. Not just with the TV, but we also had a bunch of albums, too, so when my mother's extended family got together... everybody sang. I didn't realize Mitch was also popular in Australia, though.

    1. People seemed to enjoy more simpler forms of entertainment back then. We too had record albums of many popular songs of the time.
Yes, we get. and got, many shows from the US. Perry Como, Andy Williams, Dean Martin and so on and loved all of them.

    1. I am beginning to feel it was everyone's favourite; such a good rollicking song to sing along with.
I do hope your father-in-law is feeling somewhat better.
