IT HAS RAINED IN SOUTH-WEST WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Finally we have had some good rains in our part of the world.  It began raining steadily at about 7p.m. last night and didn't stop until 3 a.m. this morning.  I actually heard it stop when I got up to go to the bathroom.  It was raining when I got up and stopped as I was getting back into bed.

Some parts of the metopolitan area received close to 60mm and in our own back garden gauge we did actually record 60mm and possibly another 10 or so mm this morning.  No more garden watering for some time (we hope).

It may seems strange to people in those parts of the world where it rains too often and too much but when you go for weeks, and sometimes months, without seeing rain, it is just so very welcome when the rain eventually arrives.  It is so welcome you have to blog about it and everyone thinks you are crazy for doing so.

It has been quite windy but I've not heard of any damage being caused by the wind, at least in the metropolitan area and hopefully that will remain the case as we have more fronts coming through today and tomorrow.  It is also great (for me at least) to have some cooler weather with today only being officially 20.8C (70F) although last night was quite warm at 16.5C (61F).

I notice our cousins in South Australia are having unseasonably warm weather at present with I think Adelaide recording its hottest May day for some years so I am hoping some of this weather system will reach them in the next day or two.  Sending some much needed cloud your way:

Hope it arrives OK.

  1. Oh Mimsie I am so happy you have the rain you need. I love reading blogs and learning about the weather and how it affects real people not the news reports. I am so happy for you. Hug B

    1. Thanks Buttons, and when I got up this morning it was still raining, although not as heavily as on Tuesday night. I too am always interested in 'real' people around the world and how their lives are affected by weather etc. xx

    1. I guess because we have so many months without rain here in W.A. we tend to forget people in far off lands suffer that type of problem as well. As one who loves winter with its grey skies and yes, the rain, I am always ecstatic when the weather breaks each year. Don't get me wrong though; blue skies and balmy days are lovely too but I am not a happy camper once the temps are over 75-80F.

  3. I do love the rain. And the smell of the countryside afterwards. And yes, we need it here. Badly. I am very, very glad that you got some rain - and hope it finds its way to us as well.

  4. I often wonder at those that find winter depressing. I think of the good the rain does to the countryside, the animals and ourselves. It is so necessary and I truly hope some does find its way to you soon. With all the rainfall on the eastern seaboard of late it is a pity it didn't reach Canberra.
We had about another 20mm so are doing really well. There was apparently some damage in the hills last night with power lost to some homes but nothing to serious as far as I could make out which is fortunate. We had no problems like that at all.
