A-Z #16 (P)

P is for PUZZLE ..( a noun.  A contrivance designed to amuse by presenting difficulties to be solved by ingenuity or patient effort.)

When you sit back and think about it our lives are a puzzle from beginning to end.  Many people seek to find out where they came from, why they are here while others just accept the fact that they are and are grateful for the opportunity to exist on this beautiful planet, for the time granted to them.

We do our genealogy until we can find ancestors back in perhaps the 16th century as I have.  Why do we do it?  We will never meet any of those people but for some reason our hereditary is something that many of us puzzle over and seem to need to answers to.  My daughter has two convicts in her ancestory both of whom became very respectable and respected businessmen here in Western Australia once they had received their tickets of leave.  Once it was thought to be a disgrace but now the more convicts we Aussies have in our family tree the better it is.  I am saddened by the fact that I have no convicts in my family tree and the best I can do is find a great-grandfather who was described as 'a gentleman' on his death certificate.

When something untoward happens to us or our loved ones we puzzle over why it happened to us/them and not somebody else instead.  Where do we belong in the scheme of things, if indeed there is such a scheme in the first place.  I tend to believe in the chaos theory and that everything that happens is a random event.

I often look up at the stars at night and try to puzzle out why this tiny speck in the Milky Way called Earth has life on it and yet we can't find true signs of life (or at least as we know on it) anywhere else in the universe.  Science has developed tremendously over the past 200 years and will continue advancing long after I am gone and no matter what advances they make they will continue to puzzle of what lies beyond that already discovered.  I doubt there will ever be a time when there are no more puzzles to solve.

Yes.  To me life is a puzzle.  I am a puzzle to myself and sometimes to others, and of that I am quite sure.  Maybe as you read this post you will be puzzling why I wrote it.  To be honest, I am not sure myself and there you are....another puzzle!  I often just write what pops into my head....that is perhaps why at times it makes little sense.  I get fun out of doing it and hope you find at least some enjoyment reading my silliness.

  1. Life is the most interesting of all the puzzles.
I love that last image of stylised people.

  2. You, in a few words, have said it all. I loved that image too so just had to add it for a bit of fun. It is so simple and yet so cleverly done.

  3. You are a thinker and a ponderer...the world needs more of those.

  4. I agree with you about chaos theory - and it goes someway to explaining the chaos which all too often makes up my life. And I really, really hope that there are always puzzles left to be solved - I think life would become very dull without them.
Another Perfectly wonderful Post. Thank you.
