MONDAY MIRTH No 14

I am not sure you would call this real humour but it something I have said many times during my adult life.   I never understood, or enjoyed, algebra (or decimals for that matter) although I am sure it stood some people in good stead if they went on to a profession where that type of mathematics was needed.

What were your favourite maths subjects when you were at school?

  1. Maths was NEVER my favourite subject. I come from a maths oriented family and missed out on the gene. Algebra I can (sometimes) see uses for. Trigonometry? Never. Ever.

    1. My dad was great at maths and mum not far behind. I did enjoy straight arithmetic and geometry 'cos I enjoy geometric figures. I guess English was my favourite subject. Never had any dealings with trigonometry or logarithms, thank goodness.

Hehehe, well I guess in daily living, it is not something which is much required; simple arithmetic perhaps; or the odd application of logic... it's a peculiarity of mine that I can cope with the higher functioning stuff; but times tables and logarithms? Yeeeeecchhhh... But overall I like numbers. YAM xx

    1. Love times tables and straight maths but not the higher levels. Phil understands them although not sure about logarithms.
I am better with letters than numbers. There is a show on SBS which involves both and I am good with the letters but not with the numbers so that proves a point. xx

  4. Ah, there's a subtle side to maths that solidly undergirds a task that advances us all through everyday life --that we must regularly solve for unknowns. It helps to know there is a exact arithmetic foundation to the process even if I can't remember all the axioms and procedures.

    1. The higher maths are a little beyond my Geo. Fortunately I never needed that knowledge. There are aspects of simple maths I enjoy but that's as far as it goes.

  5. Decimals were easy for me, but I never understood algebra. I did like geometry though, all those angles and triangles.

    1. My dad tried with decimals and so has Phil but I can never remember where the decimal point goes. (*:*)
I enjoyed geometry as I love geometric figures but never really got to grips with it as a subject.
