You will find over the coming weeks I have a very varied taste in music, except for the very modern music which I find hard to look on as true music. I find that modern stereos always seem to have too much base in them and you get the constant pounding of boom boom boom which just puts me right off.

FRIDAY FRIVOLITY No 3 (running late)
Who, over the years, hasn't enjoyed the wonderful voice of Luciano Pavarotti? Phil and I love the concerts put on the by the 3 Tenors but this one song 'Nessun Dorma" (None shall sleep) from the final act of Turandot by Giacomo Puccini, has always made me hold my breath. It really does give me goose bumps. I know this type of music is not everyone's cup of tea but do just take a few minutes to enjoy this with me.

Mimsie, you picked my favorite aria. Not sure what drew me to it over the years but I believe it was the chorus ("Il nome suo nessun saprà! e noi dovrem, ahime, morir!") composed like a launchpad for the soloist's blastoff --"Dilegua, o notte!'-- and subsequent rise into the stars: "At dawn, I will win. I will win" To audience, musician, poet alike, it is a chilling and magnificent progression.
ReplyDeleteGeo. you obviously delve more deeply into music than I do. I enjoy it for the sheer sound of the music itself and, when vocal, the voice of the singer/singers. I am so glad I chose one of your favourites.
DeleteNot for me. But I am a musical moron.
ReplyDeleteFor sheer amazement and fun, google Youtube, Amira Willighagen Nessun Dorma and see what a 9-year-old Dutch kid can do.
DeleteSomehow EC I thought you would enjoy this one.
DeleteYes Geo is right. It is worth hearing the 9 year old dutch girl. I have it stored and Phil and I often sit and listen to her beautiful voice.
I do love his voice even though I don't have a clue what he is singing about or why.
ReplyDeleteIt is a type of love song River. Sufficient for me is the beauty of the music and the voice. It's as with paintings. I enjoy them for the pleasure they bring me and i don't try and delve into what the painter was thinking when he painted it. Same with poetry. It like it or I don't but what is behind the poetry doesn't worry me at all.
DeleteHis voice makes me imagine the words!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteYes, he presents the song so well you just live it with him. Breathtaking.
DeleteHis voice is wonderful I love all different genres of music too Mimsie. Hugs B
ReplyDeleteI felt somehow you would have a wide taste in music Buttons and so glad you have. Hugs. M

I didn't even bother to wonder if you would enjoy this Yam. How fortunate to actually be in the presence of this voice. I can imagine it would indeed be spine tingling. xx
