THOUGHTS ON THURDAY

OK how's this week been for everyone out there in blogging land and how has our week been?

I have to report that I finally spoke to a 'CLIENT MANAGER' about our kitchen and they have approved a builder's quote and are contacting him to go ahead with the restoration of our poor cupboards.   It's just a waiting game until we have someone call who can tell us just how they will undertake the work, taking into consideration that not all the cupboards were damaged.  The vinyl and carpet replacement will take place after the cupboards are finished of course.

Yesterday my daughter decided to have her long hair cut off.  I was rather pleased she did as she has those awful joint problems still (her knee is fine thought) and short hair will make it so much easier for her to manage.  Just one less hassle each day.  I have photographs of her when she was younger and had short hair and it suited her so well.  I can't wait to see how it looks and I know I will like it.  She will probably hate me for showing this photo but this was taken at our place some years back (that's our old cat Soot she's holding) and I think she looked so lovely with her her short like that.  She is of course much more slender than she was then but I still love this photo of her.

Today I went and had my lung function tests (fun and games puffing and blowing for nearly an hour) and I will get the results next week when I see my GP.  Dr Ken also wants Phil and me to have chest x-rays so we'll have to try and get those done tomorrow.  It's great to have a doctor that takes the time to make sure we are as well as two oldies can expect to be.

This afternoon I had a telephone call from my ex-sister-in-law in Canberra.  Verna is now 91 and still as bright as a button.   We tend to chat for an hour or more as, of course, we've known each other for over 60 years.  Although I really enjoy talking to Verna I feel quite tired afterwards so am hoping this post is making some sense.  Obviously I don't spend enough time talking so not used to doing so. Verna and her husband Bob (who is 93 next month) moved into a retirement village a year or so back and are really enjoying themselves.  Verna has macula degeneration and her eyesight is poorly but she still enjoys her life and she told me they are off next Sunday to spend a week in Bright in Victoria. They go in an organised group from the village where they live.

I can't think of any other 'right' things that have happened in our world this week.  There is news that patrol aircraft may have found wreckage that could relate to the disappearance of that Malaysian airliner.  Although it may mean that all lives were lost at least family and friends of those passengers will have an answer.  It must be dreadful for them just not knowing.

  1. That's a lovely list of right things! Good to hear your kitchen will soon be done and also good to hear your girl's knee is fine now. she does look lovely with short hair.
My right things include getting the hang of the tai Chi easier, but there is definitely one particular move I cannot do easily as my left hip just will not turn in easily; I've been walking more and sitting by the computer less and I think that is a "right" move for me.
One more...I finally got around to ordering some bulbs to plant for spring colour! They'll be in pots on my tiny front porch.

    1. It's good to know your week is going swimmingly as well. Just watch that hip when doing tai chi won't you. I know they say 'no pain, no gain' but our physios always say don't go into pain and I think that is good advice.
Look forward to pics of the flowers from your bulbs later in the year.
I think you are right to be walking more. Wish I could as it was one pasttime I truly loved. Well done you.

    1. All very true Buttons and Verna is a very interesting person, not only as we were sort of related but her husband was in the diplomatic corps and they lived in different embassies all around the world and she has so many stories to tell.
      You too take care. xx

  3. So glad your kitchen will be underway soon. A real good list of 'rights'. What's 'right' with me? ..... well, the wind didn't blow the garbage pails over last night.

    1. Cabinet maker measured up yesterday and time frame he gave me was 'about 3 weeks' so have to think where to put everything out of the cupboards while work being done.
Glad those garbage pails were safe.

  4. Hari OM
Way to go on all counts Mimsie! Re the phone - I think it is not so much the talking as the listening that can ware us out. We are forced to focus when we are on the blower!! But it's worth it for old mates.

My week is turning around a bit and things are starting to feel like I am in control again, rather than all the agencies and vagaries that moving house brings...and I type this to you from my father's home, so spending time with him today is a definite 'right'!! Lots of love. YAM xx

    1. I do find even with talking face to face with people it can be tiring and yet I love having company occasionally. Just probably don't have enough of it so am out of practise. : )
I am glad things are going more smoothly for you and how wonderful spending time with your dad again. xx

  5. Ah so things are progressing with your kitchen Mimsie - we will expect photos of course!
I think your daughter is lovely and she will be chuffed that you shared her with us.
It's wonderful that you and Phil have great doctors who care about your health and wellbeing.
Have a wonderful upcoming weekend Mimsie and I trust the heat has eased somewhat over there.

    1. Yes could have new cupboards in about 3 weeks and he's designed them the modern way so will be exciting to see what they'll look like. Photos will be forthcoming too.
My girl is lovely and she is busy these days so may not see this post anyway and it is a great photo of her.
Hope your weekend is a good one but still quite hot over here in the low to mid 30s. Just so tired of it and still no rain at our place even though it fell lightly in other parts of the metro area.
