EXTRACT FROM 'PERTH NOW' on 13 March, 2014.

Confirming we are in drought-mode in Perth right now and especially at our place in Hamilton Hill.

"A sprinkle of rain, finally, after '102-day drought'."

"After more than 100 days in Perth without rain, a few drops have been felt in some suburbs early this morning,  Picture" Theo Fakos Source: News Limited.

Light rain has fallen in some northern and eastern suburbs of Perth but it wasn't enough to wet the ground.  (Incidentally we live in a south-west suburb of Perth, just south-east of Fremantle, so no rain at our place, not even a drop).

"Isolated showers with the chance of thunderstorms" were forecast for the city this morning and the Bureau of Meteorology radar showed a cluster of rain clouds - but they failed to deliver the goods.

There have been reports of rain in the northern suburbs early this morning, including Kinross and Inglewood.  Another "Perth Now" reader reported a heavy shower in Kalamunda.

Between 8.30am an 9am, the Bureau's gauge at Mt Lawley recorded 0.2mm, which was the first official rain in Perth for 55 days - since 0.2mm fell on January 16 this year.

Senior forecaster Neil Bennett said there had been just four "rain days" going back to October 20 when Perth had 18.2mm.

Since then, just 12.4 mm has fallen ----- 10.2mm on 30 November; 1.8mm on 1 December 0.2mm on 16 January and 0.2mm today."

  1. I am so very sorry. And hope the weather boffins start to tell the truth and you DO get some rain soon.
We have had it predicted each week, and mostly it is a mirage but we have had some.

    1. My ex-sister-in-law (Verna is now 91) rang me from Canberra this afternoon and was saying there has been some rain but that it is cooling down well. Said it was about 9ºC when she woke this morning. That sounds like heaven. It is not gone 6pm in Perth and is still 29ºC. Not pleasant at all. They are teasing us with promises of showers/thunderstorms again!!!

  2. Mimsie, I commiserate from California! Our reservoirs are mere puddles. The local Muslims have been at Folsom Dam praying for rain these past few weeks --some success, but not enough. Perhaps if we got more churches involved... and our state governor is planning irrigation rationing. We fear for our lettuce, our tomatoes and, decidedly, the well-being of our wine. I look to the sky and say, "Well?" You are not alone in drought.

    1. Perhaps someone has someone has something against the west coast of our two countries Geo. You see other parts of the country with rain, even flloods, and wonder why we are being left out. We don't even have any pretty fluffy clouds to break up the monotony of our bright blue skies.

  3. I hope the drought breaks soon for you Mimsie. We've been having a fair amount of rain here in Adelaide, not every day, but enough to wet the ground at least. Tomorrow we're expecting 31C, but after that we're supposed to have low to mid 20Cs with rain. I wish you could get some of our rain.

    1. I am glad for you although you didn't need flooding. What is it they say "it never rains but it pours"?
I see your temp is down to 21ºC tomorrow....that will probably be about our minimum or not much lower. So over it.

    1. Thanks Buttons....some snow would be lovely. You have too much snow and we have too much sunshine. It's not always easy to be thankful for what we get is it. xx

As I left home this morning, there was a rainbow - because there was also rain. We have really had a phenomenal amount of the wet stuff. It's such an uneven climate everywhere. And unfair... YAM xx

    1. Unfairness is a good way to describe it Yam. The world's weather is somewhat weirder than usual and even the boffins at the weather bureau don't really know what's what. I think we have such a huge ocean to the west of our state it is not easy for them to make accurate prediction re the weather even with all their modern technology. Keep warm and dry., xx
