Poor sister had only just managed to pass Grade 5 by then and was bitterly disappointed that mum wouldn't let her have a try at Grade 6, but I think mum knew best. It took J 3 years to pass Grade 5. My daughter was born in the mid-50s and I think when she went to college she had a box-pleated uniform but a different one during summer. I'll have to check photos of her taken at school at that time.Mimsiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00249766510078357225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2704657209559170713.post-69993759450285442462014-01-22T19:19:26.124+08:002014-01-22T19:19:26.124+08:00You said before our lives were parallel in many wa...You said before our lives were parallel in many ways and it seems they certainly did follow similar paths.
We wore black lisle stockings at Perth College and a French lady who was a neighbour gave mum 2 pairs of fine denier black stockings which I was allowed to wear to school and the other girls were quite envious. I am not sure how long those stockings lasted but I enjoyed wearing them while they did.Mimsiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00249766510078357225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2704657209559170713.post-73646894532542497122014-01-22T19:16:37.581+08:002014-01-22T19:16:37.581+08:00Thanks EC, that is very reassuring having you say ...Thanks EC, that is very reassuring having you say that. I could have had a job before my 15th birthday but dad said I was too young even though I was a fully qualified stenographer. I was just fortunate the right job came along at the right time.Mimsiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00249766510078357225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2704657209559170713.post-45425522368316490112014-01-22T19:12:31.150+08:002014-01-22T19:12:31.150+08:00You are all so very kind with your comments. thank...You are all so very kind with your comments. thank you. In summer we wore the same tunic but with short sleeved shirts and no tie. Nowadays I rarely see a box pleated tunic.
How odd for an appendix to be found way up by your right kidney! I wonder how many people have them in odd places.
I remember back pedal brakes on bikes, there were no gears either, so much simpler to ride back then. my bike now has about 7 gears and hand brakes for both back and front wheels. I don't ride much because traffic is scary.
I'm loving your trips down memory lane, you remember so much.
