Yes Terry's suicide was a tragedy but I've heard since then that people with compositor's jobs tend to suffer depression. I am not sure if it is true but I am sure I read it somewhere and Terry was a compositor with the Western Australian newspapers.
Maybe you folks had a similar agreement to my folks about how they would behave in front of the children.
Strangely enough my daughter was very aware of friction in my first marriage where her younger brother had no idea anything was wrong. I believe that is often the case with men too. A woman says she is going to leave her husband and he will come back with the question "Why what's wrong?" It may be a man/woman thing perhaps.
I am now wowser but am sure people and alcohol and children are not a good combination. I do think people are more selfish these days (or are they?)Mimsiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00249766510078357225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2704657209559170713.post-79874814711369928162014-03-12T18:01:59.187+08:002014-03-12T18:01:59.187+08:00Thanks Rae. I think without there being anything bad in my young life it is so easy to remember the good things that took place.
It was a tragedy and not long afterwards I moved a distance from North Perth so lost touch with the people I'd known locally. I don't know if Mary married again but I hope she found someone to share her life with as she was such a likeable person.Mimsiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00249766510078357225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2704657209559170713.post-48664901628954466732014-03-12T15:52:13.372+08:002014-03-12T15:52:13.372+08:00Such interesting times, your life has certainly be...Such interesting times, your life has certainly been very full. I was sad to read of Terry taking his own life.
I don't remember my parents fighting at all, but they must have, for they separated when I was quite young. I think if appearances are kept up, children just don't notice what's going on in a marriage. These days kids hear much more with parents discussing more with them too. It's better this way, although the parents who have drunken brawls in front of the kids really shouldn't. "Not in front of the children" was a comedy show in 1960s Britain which demonstrates the ethos of the times regarding the family unit. I do wonder though, if indeed children can be too sheltered. Then again, there are those who are exposed to much wrath and bitterness when parents cannot be adults and let it 'all hang out'. Seems to me yours did what was right for you and although it ended, clearly they would have benefited in their turn from the common focal point you created by your presence in their lives. And didn't those lasses have spunk, driving the Nullarbor?!
